Yoyo Loach {Botia Lohachata}
General Information
The Yoyo loach, also known as the Reticulate, Pakistan or Pakistani Loach, gets up to 4 – 8” {10 – 20 cm} in captivity. In the wild it dwells in Pakistan and India, in rivers and slow moving streams. They are a scavenger and eat various kinds of food. They are omnivorous meaning they will accept plant and meat based foods. Loaches in general enjoy munching on snails so snails are not suitable tank mates for the Yoyo Loach Yoyo loaches prefer some caves and ornaments for them to hide in, behind, or underneath.
Description
The background body color is variable and may be whitish-cream, olive green, or olive brown. Like all Botia species the caudal peduncle is deep and the tail is very forked. The color pattern on the sides of this fish has a series of dark brown reticulated streaks that run onto the dorsal, anal and caudal fins as irregular bars.
Aquarium Suitability
The Yoyo Loach is a considerably small species that is often timid and withdrawn. However, once it has settled down in the tank it can become quite aggressive. It is nocturnal but will often show up in the evening and hide during the day. It can be put in a community tank when its other companions are medium to large fish, such as larger gouramis and giant danios.
