What the heck is a 'g'?

Ok. people have been talking about thier tanks and puting 'g' at the end. Like some one had it their signigture 10g tank. At first i though grams but that can't be right at all so what the heck is everyone on about?

im just gettin used to this gallons nonesense aswell, lol we use litres in australia aswell and we spell litres the right way, not the wrong way like other people........

canada uses litres but i use gallons for aquarium purposes. if only everyone could convert to the metric system it would be easier

Metric makes so much more sense! lol You only have to remember 10's of things, not like 16oz to a pound and I wouldn't have a clue how many pounds to a stone! Same with Farenheit and Celsius. They say that Australia is about 10 years behind America in most things, well we're about 30 ahead when it comes to metric. thumbs2:

as far as I know the US is the only place that still use non metric.. so I wonder who is behind..

I use the imperial for tank since none of the americans will switch over to metric :wink2:

there's way to many abbriviations, but you learn them all eventually, every fish with a name longer than 2 words has an abbriviation. I just yesterday learned what EBJD meant.

Man you have to switch to Metric units! thats great. even the weight of the tank is equal to its volume! :hmm3grin2orange:

after joining here 3-4 months ago, i saw people express everything in gallon, inch, foot, pound, fahrenheit .... it was terrible for me! lol
had no problem to convert them because of engineering study, but metric really rocks! you will love Liter, Meter, kilogram, Celsius, ....

what use does it have in practical life??

Water freezes at 32 degrees F.. (thats a positive number.. how stupid is that?) water boils at 212 degrees F and the human body temp is around 96 deg F.

ok, now someone show me the logic in these logicless numbers..

Celsius is where its at.. it so logical you people out there need to petition your governments to change to degrees C

Pure water freezes at zero, EXACTLY.. anything under this is frozen. therefore if air temp outside says -5 you know there puddles will probably be ice. its so simple.

Water boils at 100, again, so simple.

body temp however is around 37, ok thats one number to remember.

metric is great, the only problem is that my feet aren't 10 cm long or my thumb isn't 1 cm wide but when it comes to temperature and volumes and weights metric rocks...

it just doesn't sound as cool to say 100 km/hr to describe a speeding car but if ya say 100 miles an hour you know ya rocking and no redneck bacca spittin texan is gonna wanna change that are they?

then there is UK gallon and US gallon and these two are different. BTW whats the imperial gallon anyways? Here in India too we speak in terms of litres.

for common uses celsius is the best. others have some benefits for a few purposes.
