How often should I feed my pleco and what type of veggies can I feed them. I know zucuinni but I don't have any at the moment.

It really depends on what type of pleco. Most pleco's enjoy a treat of zucchinni alnong with their regular diet. But it's a treat not a staple. Some types of pleco like to eat drift wood, some just the algea in your tank or any leftover uneaten food. I use rubber lip pleco's in all my tanks and they have done well just on the algea in my tanks, but i do give them algea disks maybe twice a week and everyonce in a while som lightly blanched zucchinni. If you know what type you have check out www.planetcatfish.com

staple for their diet should be a good high quality wafer. Try Hikari algae wafers, these are packed with protein and nutrients. My algaes won't eat anything but them........ cucumber may work also just remember not to leave any live food in the tank for more than 20 minutes as it may start to decompose and cause bacterial bloom not to mention ammonia problems as it decomposes.......

20 minutes???? I thought I read somewhere 24 hrs and that's how long I've been leaving it. ooops I should have known better. It makes sence because food can start to "turn" or grow bacteria in 20 min. at room temp.

I feed mine New Life Spectrum wafers daily but the Leporinus eat them too. Yesterday I sliced some carrots and boiled them just long enough to soften them a little and put a couple slices of those in the tank. It was mainly for the cichlids but the Plecos ate some too.

this might sound like a dumb question but are you guys just talking about normal cucumbers and zucchinis that humans eat ,not some type of pellet?

also have any of you guys tried feeding your pleco new life spectrum ?

What about NLS? Right now I feed my bristlenose some Hikari algae disks and he does a right. But I was wondering if it worth it to switch over to NLS

Also how do you put the veggies in. When I put some zuccini in a couple years ago it just kept floating to the top,so I haven't tried since

i stick the fork on the edge of the vegetable, not right in the centre.
