I bought a "spotted needlefish" about a week ago and I can't find any information about them on the internet. He's alot bulkier than any other needlefish I've seen so I'm wondering if he may be a spotted gar. He's quite small so it might be hard to tell.

-Here's a pic. (I'm in a post algae bloom clean-up right now thats why the water is green)

I know he looks a lot like a needlefish but his coloration is a lot different and I can't find any information about spotted needlefish anywhere he looks a lot like a spotted pike though.

The needle fish has a huge number of specimens.

Here's a couple of links here hopefully this helps and you find what you are looking for.

Im still not sure, I'm 100% sure he's not a normal needlefish. He could be a sub-species. Hes pretty small and probably pretty young so time will tell I think.

I sent a short vid of Fred here to a buddy of mine and he crunched the numbers and Fred here strikes at no less than 4 foot per second. Totally cool!

I really hope he's a spotted pike but he's only about 3 inches long it's pretty hard to ID a fish at that age/size.
