After reading and reading and reading I have finally done it. The carbon is gone in my Oscar tank. I dumped the first one about three hours ago and the second just went in the trash. You guys have convinced me not to keep the carbon due to hith or hlle. Now the question is with that extra space wj\hat other media should I use. Sponge sponge biomaxto help soak everything up or sponge biomax biomax to dump all the ammonia. I also put Rick in my brothers tank to decrease the bioload in my 55 galoon. Rick was a 6 inch pleco.

You don't have any problems with water quality in your tank cocoa

nope, all my filters have are bioballs, sponges, and ceramic rings. the exception is my 20g high which is only filtered my a penguin 350 with only the 2 biowheels, nothing in the media slots

ceramic rings are just a substitute for the carbon I'd guess

Are you running all canisters of hang on backs

01-31-2008, 11:05 PM
ceramic rings hold the good bacteria, carbon absorbs alot of stuff, and some stuff that carbon absorbs is good.

i run canisters on all of my tanks, except for my 20g high with the Penguin 350. the only other HOB running is a emperor 280 on my 90g with a fluval FX5 canister

see thats my problem I need another filter media as I'm running two aquaclear 110's and I'm worried about water quality.....:help:

Just throw in extra biomax

01-31-2008, 11:15 PM
And the extra biomaxwill keep the tank clean

The sponges in your filter will help keep your tank clear. The extra biomax will kick up your biological efficiency in keeping ammonia etc lower. You can put a thin layer of that white filter floss over top of your biomax.

You could put some peat in that empty space if you wanted you pH lowered. That's what I do with mine.

What do you put in your HOB cocoa?

so wait... if i wanted to could i just snip a corner of the filter and empty the carbon out? Will my water still be clear?
