Well, just like in Nickfish's article on live bearer care, my first female guppy started hiding behind the heater last night. I started to watch her closely and noticed what I thought were little guppy contractions at the vent. Then out came two puffs of dark fluid! I thought for sure that I was going to be witnessing some babies but when i called my wife, I think I scared her and she stopped. Perhaps this morning there will be kids in there. My tanks are in my room and my wife is asleep still. GRRR. I think I'm going to brave it and see what happened!

Good luck with the guppies. Sounds like she was ready but just got sppoked.

She'll probably give it another go. Just got all scared, didn't want to let her babies out in a place where there could be danger!
Or more likely she felt vulnerable giving birth and wanted to be able to swim for cover if anything came at her. Often when fish are giving birth all the other fish pester her and try to get her to release the babies out in the open where they can eat them. Or the mother dies of all the stress and they can nibble at her body, whatever comes first.

Yeah. I just went in and checked and nothing yet. I hope she does it soon though since I am off work due to wind chills in the minus 40's ( celsius ).
