changing his spots

i have my goldfish. hes a fancy little fellow and when i got him he was only orange and white. here is a picture.

but over the last month. he has grown a bit, and i have noticed that he's started to get new black spots along his fins, face, and body.

Is this just something that they do as they get older? Pretty crazy. I just figured it as part of his getting pretty for the ladies as he gets older. Is that right?

It could just be me, but does that look like ammonia burn to anyone else?

The coloration is nice unless it is ammonia burn, that would suck for the fish. I have no experience with ammonia burning a fish though so sorry....

My commet is on his third change now, he went from gery to orange, now to a lightish orange/white

hes just getting used to his environment, when my BP got moved to the 90g he did that.

i hope its not burns. I am assuming that for an ammonia burn he would have to have high ammonia levels. he's in my 40gal. thats when his color started changing alot, and its ammonia has never gone over .50 :( Im sad now.

oh kay. i feel better, (and i dont know why i spelt ok like that hahaha) but here are the symptoms for ammonia burns just for future references.

"The effects of ammonia burns usually do not appear until 2 or 3 days after being exposed. Signs to look for are ragged or frayed fins, cloudy eyes, rapid gilling, and a lack of appetite. Red blotches or streaks may also appear on a fish's body, which is a typical symptom"
