Being new to marine tanks I really didn't look that carefully at the live rock. One piece is covered with some kind of green plant life while the other three pieces are not. The 'green stuff' is not long its more like a thin layer. Is it bad? What is green and grows on live rocks?

Being new to marine tanks I really didn't look that carefully at the live rock. One piece is covered with some kind of green plant life while the other three pieces are not. The 'green stuff' is not long its more like a thin layer. Is it bad? What is green and grows on live rocks?

Green algae. Happens all the time in new tanks when nutrients are all over the place and the life in the live rock, and sand, hasn't started processing those nutrients. Just be patient. Algae may cover the rock and glass, but just remove it from the glass, and wait. May take a month to six weeks or more, but the algae will run out of the food its using to grow, and will gradually fade away.
You could hurry the demise with a Turbo species snail or two, but once they wipe out the algae, you have to feed them (dried Nori (seaweed) or they will quickly starve to death in some hidden place putting your water quality into a tailspin.
