i want to try to breed my oscar, big als has lots of them so i would try breeding mine with a albino.
mines a regular grey/black/redish oscar, so if i bred it with a albino which genes would be passed to the fry? or would it be just random?

You'd have to be able to determine which trait is dominant in Oscars. I don't remember squat about that stuff in biology, but its probably somewhere on the internet.

I'd say breed them together anyway! Be cool for a surprise!

Lets see, I think it was Kuhli_Loach that told me this, but I may be mistaken :/
Genetics!
Dominant - X
Ressesive - Y
Regular *Dark* Oscar = X
Albino Oscar = Y
It all depends on what each oscar is carrying, which is impossible to find out unless you can contact the breeder, so these are just examples of what you might get :)
---X--X
Y-YX YX
Y-YX YX
The offspring = Regular offspring, but carry the albino gene.
-------------------------------------------------
But lets say one of the X Oscar's parents was a albino and carries the albino gene:
---X--Y
Y-YX YY
Y-YX YY
The offspring = 50% Regular oscars that carry the albino gene. 50% oscars albino in colour.
-------------------------------------------------
But lets say one of the Y Oscar's parents was an albino and carries the albino gene:
---X--X
Y-YX YX
X-XX XX
The offspring = 50% Regular oscars that carry the albino gene. 50% oscars regular in colour.
Hope I've helped..... a bit :D

woah, i swear that was a exact replication of my biology courses, it all came back to me!
thanks for the info!

Lol, your welcome! I had to do all sorts of genetic researching when I started breeding my rats :) So its quite easy now for me to learn about it!

*Blush* I am a beginner :) Kuli_Loach should get the credit, he was the one who explained it to me and then afterwards I remembered all I had learned with rat genetics :)

Awesome info Demi, i remember that too with the little table and X and Y haha. We learned but i totally forgot how to do it until you put it up.

You'd think I learned all of that in biology- I learned it in math. I have no idea why they did.

Hope it works out. Let us see pics of the fry when they spout.
