Oh my. There are many, many species of rainbows. Probably the largest grows to 6". Some of the rainbows require salt depending where the come from, many others do not. I believe all fish when spawning and protecting their eggs can be aggressive to others but on the most part, rainbows are mild altho not all get along with other species.

You can see each species here but under each one is several fish so those in each area should be the ones kept together.

I answered this the other day for someone else... lot's of interest in Rainbows all of a sudden thumbs2: thumbs2:
There are loooooads of different rainbowfish just like there are loads of tetra's
In the rainbows you have different families:
Melanotaenia
Chilatherina
Glossolepis
Cairnsichthys
Iriatherina
Rhadinocentrus
Pseudomugil
Scaturiginichthys
Kiunga
And then within the families different types
They range from large to tiny so their is a rainbow out there for everyone
Iriatherina werneri is another one of my faves as well as Pseudomugil Gertudae...
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] is a good place to take a peek at some rainbows....
