Since you said that beach sand can make my tank a little bit salty i realised that barramundi dont mind a bit of salty water also i need to get rid of the white spot so could i use the beach sand as substrate for my barra or would that be unsafe still

i would only use the beach sand for saltwater aquariums (assuming you are talking about ocean sand) not becuase of the salt content but becuase of the micro organisms that live in it. i would suggest you just get substrate at a store.

I don't think the micro organisms would be a problem besides the fact that they might casue an initial nitrite/nitrate/ammonia spike.

I believe beach sand would work with barras but have no experince with it myself.

What is the grain size of the sand? What is the compisition of the sand? Be careful with sand from a gardening store. It may have large ammounts of limestone or pyroclase feldspars(can be very high in Na in forms other than tablesalt), or any assortment of minerals that may not be good for the aquarium. If there is any rhyolite in it I would definately NOT use it. Too much rhyolite and you'll have a acidic pH in no time!!!

o ok i think ill just pass on using the sand, i put it into a small jar and it still hasnt gone clear (the water)
