I have a dwarf snakehead (I live in canada) in a 55g tank, previously I bought an oscar and was given a blue ahli and a peacock chiclid, now I know this tank is probbably way over populated but that will change, I am wondering how big the snakehead will get he is now about 5 1/2 inches and also he seems not to have much of an appetite I am putting feeders in but he doesn't seem to be interested, any suggestions? also my oscar seems to be pacing the tank alot right against the glass he is always fed well i can't figure out why he is doing that

Thanks, Rich

Snake heads get HUGE, and might be illegal in your area.

If indeed it is a dwarf snakehead then this site says it reaches 20cm.

i wouldnt think theyre banned, at least here in alberta. the gov.t is lax about fish and we can have piranhas, arowana, sting rays, etc.

yeah same....i don't think that are banned here in Ontario. I have seen piranhas, arowanas, and sting rays sold around here aswell.

we can only not have 2 things in alberta, rats and turtles. rats make sense since they could carry disease, but they think kids will get salmonella from turtles. even though turtles are illegal here everyone smuggles them in. its not hard to drive to BC or sask. and bring one in.

sad that the first rat ive ever saw was at a petsmart in seattle last year

Snakeheads are now illegal in thirteen of the US states as well as some other countries. They are an invasive species that can be extreamly distructive to many ecosystems. Most of this I am sure is pointed at the northern snakehead, very aggresive and tolerates water from 0-30 C.

But they certainly have a following and are said to be tasty. :o)
