okay, I do landscaping, and we get our slate and blue stone in large pallets, and often times, pieces are broken, or just to small, and are thrown aside, and taken to the dump at the end of the year. last year, we got rid of enough to fill the bed of a pick up.

so what I am getting at is, you should go to your local landscaper, or even your masonry supply store, and ask them if you can pick through their scrap pile. most people will be more than willing to let you take the smaller pieces off of their hands.

hope this helps someone out there. thumbs2:

Very good advice, I did just that a couple of years ago and ended up with quite a bit of stone work.

well, the more I thought about it, I know we used limsestone once and a while, so I started this thread.

Recently I talked to a home remodeler who was doing a tile job. He laughed his butt off that I actually wanted his sawed off scraps.

Perhaps in a few months you'll all see the end result. ;o)

Thanks for sharing that.
There are some really nice pieces of rock that is just thrown away. Would look great in a tank never really thought of that. You'd have to really scrub it though.

actually, most of the rocks come very clean, so a quick scrub and boil should do it for ya.

This reminds me: Rocks are cheaper at hardware stores and are great in aquariums.

At the back we have some really terrific rocks, but if I ever run short, I'll take that advice!
