I am cycling a 30G tank and got couple of pairs of guppies to start cycling. It took me a while to get home and when I am about to float the bag in the tank, I notice guppy fry.

I have seperated the fry in a bucket (I have a 20G which hosts a community, so no spare tank!!!).

I have no clue how to raise the fry. My LFS donot seem to have BBS. I looked up an article on giving egg yolk mixed with water. I have done that and the babies have not yet started to take a liking to it.

1) Will the fry accept powdered pellet food (that I feed the adults)
2) Will having live plants help?
3) How often should I feed the fry.

I have about 10-12 fry and they seem to be brisk.

feed the fry crushed flake
they will also eat the slim of the walls
in the bucket do you have a air hose and some sort of heating for them
if not they might die

They can eat finely-ground flake if its all you have, but you really have to be on top of keeping the tank clean. Also, daily 50 percent water changes regardless of what foods you use are needed as you'll get better and bigger guppies that way.
BBS are easy to grow yourself; brine shrimp eggs are for sale everywhere. A tip, get de-capsulated eggs. They are a whole lot less mess. Life-A is a brand. All you need is a little marine water, the eggs hatch in 24 hours. You feed them the fish as soon as the little shrimp hatch. Easy.

Feed the fry little meals, no more than they can wipe out in less than 30 seconds, four or five times a day. PROMPTLY remove any uneaten. Live plants give the fry cover, and the plants tend to purify the water.

No filtration, no heating, just the bucket, I was so un prepared for this. Took me by surprise.

Thanks Dave...

Will follow your tips and see how I can raise the fry. I have a spare air pump, will build a sponge filter that can support the fry 'bucket'. Heating my current water temperature is around 26 deg C. I live in the tropics! :)

You are quite welcome. Lucky you, living in the tropics; I've spent a mint on titanium heaters over the years. Good luck with your fry.

Plants added, regular feeding continues. 50% water change a day schedule started and working on a DIY sponge filter. Lets see how this goes.
