Hi there. I have some fish the i havent noticed that anyone else has mentioned. I could be mistaken, too, because I havent explored the entire forum here. ITS HUGE! I have 2 Scorpion fish that are sold as Butterfly Gobys but theres nothing butterflyish about these little monsters. Then there is my Stonefish that was sold as a Lionfish. This i dont understand why petshop people mess up names so bad. I do a little research on a fish before i get one. They are in one tank.

In the other, there are Reepfish and Dinosaur Eels (Bichirs) and a Spotted Pike. I'd post pics but im a total airhead and forgot how to.

Nice fish... all venomous I believe but nice fish.... \

I know the scorpionfish/stonefish (same thing) in Hawaii are venomous. also the lionfish are venomous. Venom is secreted through the dorsil fins when pushed.

you could not pay me to stick my hand into that tank to clean it.

I enjoy cleaning my tank, and my goldfish will swim into my hands and rub on me, but that is a bit scary.

I'd be scared to have a tank like that lol.

I dunno why people think stonefish are ugly, they gotta be some of the cutest fish ever! They look so nice with their fuzzy beards and and human-like features. I almost wanna cuddle him! But that would hurt......
Nice tank you got, thanks for sharing those pics!

I know... my arm isnt that long anyway. I keep one eye on them and the other on the spotted pike in the tank. when he's startled he's a jumper.

My little Stonefish died today because I followed all the suggestions in there about these fish. Diet and water condition were all wrong. The "fresh" in fresh water is not at all correct. They are a SW fish that ventures into BW. Their tanks need to be near SW but not SW conditions for them to thrive. And this particular fish eats practically nothing but crustasaens. Right now my surviving Stone is on the edge and I don't feel he will survive the week if I can't get him to eat.

that is horrible. do you have anyway of setting him up something small salty? you gotta find him somewhere to go that is saltwater fast. for food i'd get on checking out local grocery stores for fresh or frozen crustations of somekind. there's gotta be something there he'll eat. have you tried feeding live shrimp? where did he come from? do they have a proper set up he might be able to go into? if you have to give him away for his own good, then you can place an add for him on local classifieds. i hate how lps do that. they sell all kinds of things as fresh /lightly salted water when they know they are going to need full salt to survive in the long run...grrr!!! also if you have any local display aquariums they may take him in and that way lots of people can see him. just trying to help. if you can find a way to get the right set up for him then by all means keep him, but if that's not a reality then you gotta bring him to someone who can.

at the last minute... I got out of school and went to the petshop and got Sea Salt and worked it into the water.... took more than 2 hours to pull out the old and add the new salted water... i was trying to simulate it like the tide was coming in. :) ... i think that worked and the fishs behaviors have calmed down. And the Stonefish is back to sulking in his Pot.
Hard lesson learned but we arent completely safe yet. I still have to watch him eat.

i really hope he is okay. That would be so sad to lose them both. Shame on who you bought him from, that they did not inform you of his specific needs. Thats just not fair to you or your fishy. I wish him a quick and easy recovery. *hugs*

I was poking around in the BW swamp looking for my Spotted Puffer, Whitey, in the tall weeds when I heard, and felt, this low vvvvvvrrrrtt sound. I looked down and saw my fat little puffer shoot out the top of the pot! His large eyes wide. And he screamed past my arm in the water. Ike, the Stonefish walked around the inside of the pot three times and settled. The Sand Goby came out from under his log and looked around for a minute like a nosy neighbor and the two Bullrouts (Waspfish, Butterfly Goby, etc.,) skittered around too in the chaos then scooted back to there spot in the weeds. And there I am up to my shoulder in the water. I was like, hmm, this isnt good. lol.
I have read that the larger they get they become territoral. Maybe this is a sign he's feeling better. If so, I'll take it.

Ike and the Waspfish brothers, Jerry and Dennis, are going to get there own BW mud hole in the shallow 20g i have. Gonna set it up and get it cycling this weekend so they dont have have compete with Whitey, the puffer. Might get a scat of some type to keep Whitey out of trouble.

Wow, those look like really beautiful, healthy fish (and frog) in that video. Are the Cuvier bichirs really as active as some people say? I've been hoping to start up a bichir tank in my 47 Gallon, I have an Ornate who is very pretty but he hardly does anything.

The Cuvier's Bichirs are active alot. The Reedfish are active too, but mostly swim in and around and through the black pipe caves with the pile of driftwood on top. They are wild. They love chopped up shrimp, the kind with the shells and guts and stuff and dead guppies. The shoot out he caves like the space monster thing on Empire Strikes back and nab a freshly dead guppy or chunk-o-shrimp, shake it "to death" and slide back into the darkness. Silly fish. They love bloodworms! OMG! when they smell them in the warter, all 4 come out and wiggle through all the tall and hanging weeds, twisting and coiling together while they pick them off the surface. My largest girl reedfish has tanken feeder out that stray near any of the cave opening. Twice a week they all get feeders and shrimp but the rest of the time they get sinking pellets and grandules. I recommend Cuviers and Reeds if you arent a fan of small fish. They grow fast when well fed and are really friendly. Only time they escape or try to is when they arent happy. Mine havent.:ezpi_wink1:
