I have a 30g tank that's been up and running (no fish yet) for about 2 weeks. This is my first tank and my husband's already complaining about how loud it is with an AC70 HOB filter. We keep it in the same room as our TV and the "waterfall" effect is rather loud (although I find it a pleasant sound). How close to the top of the tank can I raise the water level? I have it about an inch or maybe a little more from the top of the tank. Also, don't I need the "waterfall" effect or movement on top of the water to help with oxygenation? I'm afraid if I raise the water level too much that it won't create enough disturbance to help with oxygen, although I'm guessing it would be quieter.
I understand some of the canister filters are much quieter, is that correct? If so, do they still create enough movement for oxygen to get in the water or do you need an air stone or something with a canister filter?
I might be totally misunderstanding how oxygen gets in the water so feel free to correct me. Thanks.
