Well I bit the bullet and decided to try the ebjd again. They are 50 dollars a fish and I've all ready tried 4 of them and havent gotten one to live yet. But 2 of them were from pets supplies plus which I do not trust. And the other 2 I had in my 29g tank and I figured out there was somethign wrong with the tank. So maybe I can finally succeed. He is only one inch long but he is accepting food and he swims around alot although he stays close to the sand.

I also got roadrunner high speed internet so I will be on here all the time now.:hmm3grin2orange:

What is that? It looks like a jack dempsey with neon lights under it's scales.
Is ebjd that actual name of it?

Okay, I lied. I have never heard of these and I am a huge jack dempsey fan. Where do you get them? Is this a hybrid or is this a natural fish?
Are they high dollar fish? Can they handle themselves like Jack dempseys?

from what I've gathered on my google hunts as of late... they're a little smaller than normal JD. But the coloring is natural and gets "bluer" <--- not sure thats a word! over time...

They cost 50 dollars at my lfs. I have to special order them so maybe you can get them around you or you can get them online.

an ebjd is basicly an albino form of the fish. They occur naturally but are very rare. When they are young they actuall start out mostly white and then once they mature they develope into a light blue color and then they eventually turn a deep royal color. There adult size is only 8 to 9 inches which is smaller then the regular jack dempseys, and they are not as aggressive as the rjd. They are very hard to mate because the female ebjd are infertle. The only way to mate them is to buy 2 unrelated ebjd males and one rjd female. mate one of the ebjd with the female rjd. This spawn will still look regular colored but have the eb gene. then you mate one of there fry with the other ebjd and then there spawn will be electric blue.

Hope it goes better this time for you Adam. That fish is too expensive to have him die. Now all the cycling, etc, is done he should be fine.

I hope all goes well with your ebjd. At my lfs they sell them for $38 a piece or $65 a pair! I want to get a pair and attempt breeding but I do not have a tank big enough for them at the moment. I have always wanted them. As long as I can remember.

Well I learned something new! Never new they were infertile. Could you breed one with a jd female? Not the ebjd female.
