New from Cincinnati Ohio

I just set up my first aquarium in almost 20 years and it seems there is so much more to it than I ever realized. I just set up a 28 gal bowed aquarium for freshwater on Saturday and it is going through it's cycle. I have 3 Tiger Barbs and 3 Gourami. They seem to be doing well so far and they have been in the tank since Sunday afternoon as the tank was set up Saturday morning.

Welcome to AC! I have a few things to say though. Gouramis and tiger barbs are not hardy at all. They should not be through a cycle. They should be the last fish added even after the cycle, somtimes a month after. And anyways, 3 gouramis are too much for a 28 gallon, they are very territorial, and need to be in pairs or single, which you have a trio. and there can be only one pair per tank. Also, be prepared for getting 7+ tiger barbs because they fin-nip. i suggest getting rid of your current fish and doing a fishless cycle, which you can learn about here:[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Welcome to the AC. You should return those fish and get hardy fish to cycle like danios or platies. Whichever way you go I hope your fishes survive the cycle.
