Saving a baby plant?

Hi all,

I was cleaning out the tank yesterday and knocked a couple of java fern leaves loose. One of them was growing baby plants or whatever they're called. Are these salvageable? I buried the leaves in the gravel with the baby plant leaf sticking up. I know in normal circumstances they are supposed to let go on their own. Is there any point in leaving them in or are they just polluting the tank?

Java Ferns are pretty resiliant. I've left little "plantlets" in buckets of water after cleaning up and have still seen them green after weeks of just sitting there in the garage with little light.

However, Java Fern prefers to be attached to something instead of sitting in the substrate. You can attach the plantlet to a rock or other decoration with fishing string or a thread. But before you do that, make sure you cut the little plantlet from the leaf before you attach it, or the leaf will rot and pollute your water.

Also, don't fret, Java Ferns yield many little plantlets from time to time.

You ca just tie them on a rock or a piece of wood and see how they do.

I have several pieces of leaves w/ babies floating around loose that are doing fine.

I would leave them attached to the leaf and tie them down
