I really want 6 cories, but I've heard that they like to live on sand. I want my tank to have small, brown gravel/pebbles on the bottom, would the cories adjust to them? Thanx ^_^

Cool! Does anyone know if they like live plants or not? On a website, it told me not to get any real ones :P

Smooth pea gravel will work okay. The fish cant really tell the difference between live and real.

I have corys in gravel and they don't seem to mind. Just as long as the gravel isn't sharp because that could damage their barbels (whiskers).

My cories live in a gravel substrate, although it is very small gravel, but before that lived in riverbed and were fine, I have 7 cories and also they even bred in that tank for me. Also I USED TO have live plants, but between the cories and the clowns, that was along time ago, I now have artificial but hey it`s a trade off. If I wan`t to look at plants I will have to look at the Discus tank. Hope this helps

Live plants are better in any case as long as you can keep them alive. Even if the fish eat them it is good for them. The only problem is that so many have problems keeping live plants alive.

I went through the same debate you did. I have gravel, very rounded gravel with no sharp edges. I ended up getting the Cories and they seem fine. But I do have plenty of plastic plants for them to hide play around in.

Okay, that means I can stick with gravel :) Thanx!

Finer gravel is nicer, it should not be sharp edged, or as someone already said, it hurts their barbels.

My cories are in a tank with small rounded pebbles. It had fake plants then I switched to real plants and put some java moss and java fern in it. They love the moss! They rub all over it and swim through it.

I use to keep albino cory with gravel. It is fine as long as the gravel is not sharp. Personally, I think the cory will enjoy it more if it was sand. My live plants never has a problem when I kept cory with them also.
