Thanks and only the light green plant is live. And yea some of the fish have already nipped at it pretty good. I just didnt care too much for it because it was one of the bulbs you buy from petco that you just throw in the water and a plant is supposed to sprout. I didnt expect it to actually grow like that, lol

Thanks for the info, I will be bringing mine home in about a month or so. I have to drive 900km return to our nearest LFS, other than walmart which is all we have around here. So when we go to Halifax, I make sure I get when I need when we are there. Any supplies I need I order from Big Al's Online. I can't wait to get mine.

This is "Okka" my oscar, he's so cool! I got him for Christmas, so haven't had him long, but I love him! Actually all the familly love him, hubby loves that he takes food from your hands, and that he spits gravel at the glass when he's hungry or pulls the plants out and taps on the glass with the base and my kids love that he dances with them!

This is Flounder... he's bashful around the camera, but a bull in a china shop when he's sees me carrying the fish net or his bag of harikari food. Not the prettiest if Oscars, though he makes up for it on personality. Not the best picture either. I'll do better next time.

Last April when I bought him:

Two months later in June:

And tonight 11 months old, being real finnicky:

The firemouth behind him is around 7-8 months old I believe. She hasn't grown much..

Nice lOoking Oscar, the orange has really come out. Mine looks alot like your first picture right now. do you recall what the white marks are on him, mine have something similar, but I think his are scratches...

NWMountainTroll

Where at? The first one is a product of my camera and not actually on the fish. On the last picture the only thing I can think of is the lateral line, that might look like a white mark.

Scratches will be white but they should heal quickly, big ones within a few days and little ones almost overnight. If you are noticing white sores on the fish's head then you probably are dealing with hole in the head (do a search for it).

Oscars are clumsy fish and are constantly hitting things, so I would not be surprised if your fish has some scratches on it. The best thing you can do is reduce the amount of sharp objects in the tank and to keep your nitrates low using water changes (to help the healing process). Low means under 20ppm nitrate, I've let my tank get up to about 40ppm before I do water changes, but it is important that you do not let it get higher than that nor allow it to stay that high for very long. 40ppm should be a signal for a water change, best case scenario you keep it under 20ppm at all times but depending on your stocking level that can become too tedious.
