So I have a problem. I planted my bettas 10 gallon tank about a month or so ago. I started to get some algae growing on the plants and the glass. I cleaned most of it off. Some came back. I decided to get some oto cats. I have some in my 30 gallon and they are diligent workers. So I bought 3 and off to work they went. Last night I dropped 2 small algae tabs in for them. I broke the tabs into quarters . When I woke up this morning my betta was eating the algae tabs. His stomach is so huge. He is so fat. I’ve never seen it so big. I had no idea bettas would eat algae tabs. I also give my bottom feeders veggies a couple times a week. I don’t want to starve my otos, but I don’t want my betta to eat so much. What should I do? What should I do about my betta today? Should I not feed him for a couple days? Should I give him peas? I think he’s had quite a bit of veggie matter already.
Greedy fish.
Thanks for any advice.

Hahahaha if it is edible a betta will eat it... they are all 'big' on food
Otocinclus eat and scavenge in complete darkness so when you put the lights out at night wait an hour til betta is asleep and the room is pitch dark and drop the algae tablet in for the oto's thumbs2: Betta's cannot see that well in pitch darkness and the oto's can feast in peace throughout the night

thats what i did. i feed in a dark room about 11pm. not much light at all. the otos either didnt eat it all, or betta got it all.

Don't give the Betta any food for a couple of days!
Mine attacks the aglae wafers too, the greedy little bastard. So, he gets no food / very little food the next day if I see him doing it.

Ah what has happend is the oto has more than enough food from the alge and dont need it until the alge is keped at a minimum, dont feed them.

Well, I don’t think my betta likes tank mates. The 3 otos have been in there for 48 hours, and it looks like my betta is giving chase every chance he gets. I watched him stalk and chase about 5 times. I wonder what he would do if he could catch one of them. I think the otos are too fast for him, but I don’t want to stress out the otos. I think the 3 new otos will have to be transferred to my 30 gallon with the other 3 otos. It just sucks because the otos have done a great job on the algae. Oh well. I guess im just going to have to scrub every week.
on a side note... there shouldnt be any acclamation with transferring the otos right? Same water same temp. they were already acclimated to my water paramaters.
Just wondering

Try veggies only like a big piece of squash or cucumber. My bettas never cared for that stuff, only what they could shove into their mouths. The otos love to hang on the squash and it it upside down or backwards.
