Would like to have a cycle right away, if possible..

Which is the better product?

Though, I do plan to have a planted aquarium..

Not enough to need a C02 system, though..

How many plants would you need for say a 55g tank to not need to cycle? How long would they have to be in the tank before introducing fish?

Could I add the fish and the plants all at once, with either the Biospira or the Seachem Stability?

if you cant get plants a place called trident wholesale here sells a bacterial supplement called special blend, if i add a dose to a new tank i can stock it right away.

the plants would have to stay there and if you used plants you would have to heavily plant it

I've heard a lot of good things about Bio-Spira, but have never used it. As to where to find it, don't know ... sorry. Maybe check the company website and ask for distributors in Canada?

As for plants and the cycle ... the two are largely independent. Having plants (no matter how many) will not eliminate the need to cycle the tank. While they do absorb nitrogenous wastes, they don't do it enough to substitute a proper population of cycling bacteria.

Once the tank is cycled though, they'll help to keep nitrates and phosphates down, which will also help control algae. The fish also tend to prefer them vs. artificial plants.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me, guys..

If I get the Biospira or the Seachem stability, do I add the plants and the fish at the same time, or do I get the plants established first, before adding the fish and either chemical?

I plan to go for tall plants at the rear and sides, and short plants for the middle-front..

Do both Biospira and Seachem Stability need to be stored and shipped in refridgeration?

Ok, I was talking with someone at Big Al's (they're my best bet for one stop shopping, and were VERY helpful and knowledgable)) and he said they stopped carrying Biospira because of the shipping requirements..

He said the Seachem's Stability doesn't need to be refrigerated, so that's what I'll get..

I actually ended up getting a whole whack of stuff from there, besides..

The Eco-complete (going to do a 1:1 gravel/Eco substrate), t-5 lighting, an Eheim cannister filter, a C02 suppliment, an Iron suppliment, an air pump, digital thermometer, a Visitherm Stealth heater....

$$$$ :help:

Just need to get a tank, and some more gravel.. And some fish, finally!
