Bugs in the water.... help?

G'day all.

In the last two days I have discovered three damselfly larvae (nymphs). My theory on how they got into my tank is that they were attatched to the plants I bought from the LFS and have grown enough to be clearly visable.

They have all been the same size, theyre about an inch long (2.5cms).

Would they harm my fish? I have removed two of the three nymphs, should I remove the third and anyothers I find? I also have guppy fry in this tank, would the damselfly nymphs eat the fry?

Yes. you should remove it. Damselfly larvae (nymphs) are ferocious predators.

Thanks William. Would it spread disease to my fish?

I doubt it even if it is possible. A bigger concern is that they might eat your fish or just killing them while trying to eat your fish. They sometimes attack prey that re bigger than themselves!

I've tried to get the third one out but the horrid things decided its going to live in the part of the undergravel filter where the bubbles come out... I think it knows that i cant get it out unless I rip out my ug filter >_<

LOL. Sorry to hear that. But it will likely come out sooner or later.

I attatcked it with a pair of 'boiled' tweezers... Ding dong the bug is dead ^_^
