Hi Everybody,

How long does it usually take Anubias to attach securely to a piece of driftwood?

If you use black cotton thread to attach it to the wood, by the time the thread disintegrates it'll be attached. Takes a month to six weeks.

Thanks Dave. Shorter than I thought, and didn't know the cotton thread disintergrates. That will make things easier.

've had good luck with finding small crevaces and pieces of the driftwood that i can lodge the rhizome into as well.

Interesting that this thread was started--I was just going to post one about this but don't need to now!

I do also have another question--do anubias HAVE to be attached to wood/rock or can they be placed in the substrate?

I don't think you're supposed to plant any rhizome plant in the substrate, but you could let it float I guess. I do that with my java ferns and some of them just attach themselves to something somewhere in the tank. It looks more natural than having them tied down with something, except when they attach themselves to algae growing on the upper part of the tank wall.

ive always planted java ferns in the substrate without trouble. just dont put the rhizome under the gravel

I have mine rubberbanded to a piece of driftwood. Do you think I will have any problems removing the rubberband after the anubias mounts to the wood? (I plan on cutting the rubberband)

Anubias can be planted in substrate, as long as the rhizome stays above the substrate, Bury ONLY the root hairs and it will be fine.

That's what I thought. I have had one with the roots in the substrate for a few months and it seems to be doing well. Thanks!

I attach everything to wood with a staple gun. Just pop the staple out later.
