I just got these 2 cichlids and don't know what kind they are. Hope someone can help. Sorry about the flash but the colors are true. I don't think they are both the same kind of fish. Both are about the same color (purpleish blue)but one is lighter and shows some stripes or barring.

They are mbunas, which is the important part. Unless you KNOW what species they are, you don't know. Many species come in an assortment of colors and patterns. To make this worse MANY are hybrids. Unless you get them from a tank that has a label with the species name and even location they were gathered (or their parents were gathered) you really can't be sure. They look like powder blue socolofi, the one looks like a washed out/hybrid kenyii almost.

That's what I was afraid of, not being able to find out for sure what type mbuna they are. Prolly won't since they came from the african cichlid tank in wal mart. Could be hybrid. The store I got them from does have a clean fish dept. & I have bought fish from there before. When I got these 2 they were down to just albino P. socolofi ( I already have some of those) and these two fish in their african cichlid tank. They were due to get another shipment in the next day. These 2 were so ugly and pale in the store, almost a pale gray looking, that I felt sorry for them & thought they'd prolly never get sold lol. So I bought em and brought em home. They look so much nicer now. Have colored up alot in just a day. I was just curious as to what they are. It really doesn't matter. I'm not in the business of breeding or anything. Our tank is just for our enjoyment & I'm thoughly enjoying our 2 new fishies.
