View Full Version : need help with a fan for a tank

i am in desperate need for someone to tell me how i can build or buy a cheap fan to run on my tanks to cool them down,

i am getting to the stage where my stock is dying because of the heat


please help with cheap and easy, safe way of doing this

here they sell small fans with a clamp that would work if you can find one.

If you can find a CPU fan, and an adequate power supply, I could write up a simple schematic, including a switch, that you could use crimpers to wire together.

problem is that australia has a different voltage than north america

drum my hubby is very good at building these sorts of things

can you please tell me exactly how to do it so i can tell hubby
we have lots of CPU fans lyin around the house

also how do we make it safe with the water

Well, I need to know the volts on the fan. It should say somewhere on the label, towards the middle.

I build mine from computer parts, computer power supply and 3"X3" or 4" cooling fans that you and get from any computer store or swamp meet, as for the switch thats on the power supply. I then build them into the hood. its simple and cheep, if you don`t have a hood you can get a small piece of Aluminium n shaped tubeing and screw the fan to it then drill two holes in the tubing and put a couple of screws in the n tubing to attatch it to the edge of the tank.

i am not sure right now hubby is out with the kids but it would be computer parts

what watts do you recommend for it anyway
