Well...cleaned the puffer tank today and there are no puffers left. So that's it for them. Tried for 6 months or better and obviously can't do them justice.

The remaining bumble-bee catfish is doing well though! He'll be moving to the 25g when I dismantle the 10g.

I'm also going to phase out of 'snail breeding'.

I'll have to cull more of the babies I currently have and just keep a couple for myself - but no more letting eggs hatch. Tried it - doesn't work well within the confines of a hobby tank.

The End :c2:

I am having the same problem as you Rue.....i have had mine for about a month and a half and i have had more problems with them than anything. They are cool but they are too much work. lol. They may not seem like that are but.....they are. lol.

EDIT- sorry to hear about your loss :(

Other than I feel bad for the fish...I'm glad I gave them a go...very unique and very personable...which is why I'm sad...

But as you sad...they're too much work (for what I'm willing to put in) to house and feed correctly - and I found them just too small to look at properly!

yeah they are cool fish but hard to take care of with all of the needs that they need. I know what you mean about them being to small. Exspecially whent hey are in a planted tank.....I sometimes had to look for like 10 minuted before one would come out....sometimes i wouldn't even see one when i went up to the tank. i was sad when 2 of mine died aswell. :(

Sorry to hear about your puffers.
All the things I'm hearing about DPs dying I hope that mine will be ok. I'm willing to put a lot of effort into keeping their tank clean. If all works out i hope to get a third.
What do you think killed yours?

Sorry to hear about your puffers . . . So far, our two have been doing quite well (fingers crossed).

I have no idea! It's not a matter of tank cleanliness though...tank is clean...water parameters very good...but obviously something is missing for them...unless they only have a 6m lifespan...but I wouldn't think so.

Also, if they're wild-caught (which they are) there's no way to know how old they were to start with...

I still think I'm just not providing for them properly...

Rue....the same thing happened to my puffers (the 2)....i just went to feed them and i realized that one was dead. No sign of disease or being beaten up....they seemed to be eating and everything......very weird.

Sorry to hear about your lost. I was kinda looking at a few puffers last weekend. But I think they are pretty hard to upkeep. Will have to read up more...

So sorry about your Puffers. I tried one and it only lasted about 24 hrs. I was reading, after the fact, that there is a type of Puffer that can not be out of water at all. You have to take special steps to transfer it to your tank etc.. They sure are cute but the more I read about them, they are alot of work and very hard to raise. I don't if I'll ever try it again or not.

Thats terrible. What kind of puffers did you have?

I have 2 Amazon Puffers and they are tough little guys, have survived 2 mini cycles in their tank with no problems.

Sorry your expenience with puffers went by the wayside. Possibly your water just was not right for them.
