Is an airstone in the central tube absolutely necessary or is it okay to just use the end of the airline?

Do you put it almost at the end of the central tube?

I made one today for the 2.5 gallon cory fry growout tank. They are now about...oh, maybe 1/4 inch long.

The air bubbles rising to the top of the tube draw water in through the tank. I don't see any benefit of having an airstone on the line, but it doesn't hinder it at all.

You would be fine either way.

Also, the farther down in the tube the air is, the more efficient your filter will be.

Cool. I just tested it and it seems to be working very well. Putting it in the cory fry tank now.

Thanks a lot, guys!
