My drifwood is sick! It needs to be cured! lol. Its not sick. I just have a question. As some of you know, I am going to redo my tank. New plants, and REAL wood- I had just fke decor before. So I hae read on almost every website that you boil it for an hour, then let it sit for a week in water. Is this the right way? The biggest pot I have only fits 1/2 of the wood. Could I boil one side for 30 mins and then the other side? I have heard you can bake it. Would that do me any good? How do I cure my wood?

Jus boil it for half an hour each side like you said also give it a good scrub before and after, then your all set!

I think i have read that plants do better with them, and only 2 types of fish (out of 6) aren't from the amazon, but they are from SE asia, so I think they would all like it. I sort of like the look too. And my water is a little hard. So it will soften it. So in short terms, yes, I like tannins. BTW I forgot the pics!
The first is the top view, the second is the way I will have it in the aquarium.

Don't bake it. That only dries the wood out. You can soak it in a big trash can in the hottest water you have and pour it off and refill every day. I would worry about it one bit. When I buy wood, I just put it in my tank. Wood found in the wild is another story.

Thats awesome!!! Did you find it or buy it???
Yeh your fish'll love it, theres no need for it to stand it hot water i think thats jus for the tannins. Boiling will be enuf to kill any nasty stuff.
Can't wait to see it in your tank!

I got it from my LFS. The new one, if you didn't know I went to a lot better place. I will boil it though. But not let it sit in water. Thanks.

Just rinse under hot water for a bit to remove any potential pathogens and you can just add it. If you boil it, it will remove the tannins.
