Anyone know anything about keeping turtles? Caring for injured ones? My wife and I discovered a turtle in our back yard that appears to have possibly been an abandoned pet. The thing that we are most worried about, is his shell is broken on the bottom. I am having trouble finding stuff on line.

The right thing to do would be to give him to the human society.
But I can admit that when you find a cool animal you have to keep him, I am a very good example of this. Just make sure you aren't slowly killing him. I once kept a baby snapping turtle for a few months. Feeding him feeder minnows and keeping him in a old 5 gallon. Really cool pet but I eventually released him back into the lake I found him.
As for yours can you put up some pictures to help better identify whether he is native or an abandoned pet that would help.
If he is injured there isn't much you can do except bring him to a vet.
Good luck!
Here are some good turtle keeping links.

I would take him to a vet. Cracked shells dont repair on their own, i dont think. Is he a land turtle?
...I wouldn't go to the humane society...they don't have the resources or the expertise to look after reptiles.
Shells can be repaired with glue...but you need to know what you're doing. I'd check to see if there's a herp. rescue in your area to start.
