View Full Version : African clawed frog?
Well Ive had this frog for 10 years now and just recently was searching around an found that she might be an african clawed frog....I got her when i was young as a gift( one of those growafrogs) Their site only says that its a pipidae frog so I was just wondering if an ACF is what she is(is she?)
I havent been able to find a lot of information on the pipidae frogs in general but there is a lot of info on ACFs so Im hopeing shes one of those. And just curious does anone else have one of these..are they very common?
a few pics....
I have had a few of them, and they like to die on me.
very fun to watch though.

Is she still that small after 10 years?
It is definitely a nice looking female african clawed frog.

gorgeous! they always disappear on me though, the only ones that live several years with me are the large albino clawed frogs
She really isnt all that small..her body is a good 5in long...she looks a little thin to me although she just went a couple of weeks where she wouldnt eat much...just a few pellets. She does this every once in a great while..but I read on a lot of ACF sites that this is common..and she has her full apatite back so she should start looking better...she has never been a particularly fat frog like the females Ive seen in pictures though.
So she is definately a ACF?

Thanks..she is a nice looking female. What do you mean by disappear?
Ive also noticed on may sites that the frogs living with other fish seem to get more diseases and things..mine lives alone and she has never had a problem..
except the first time she went on one of her little hunger strikes.. that worried me.
from what I rember, she is a she, as the males do not have the black "claws" on their rear feet.
I did not realize it was that big, I thought that that was a finger in the fist picture.

Both sexes have claws. The females have an ovipositor (the little fleshy thing sticking back right between her legs). It looked like this one has oen in one of the pictures.
Definitely an African clawed frog.
Thanks for the replys and for helping me identify her..your help is very much appreciated.

I had an African Clawed Frog I kept with my oscar, he got pretty big. And he ate a minnow once. It was sticking out of his mouth.
