I need a loach

I need a good solid loach to take care of a ramshorn problem I have. It is in a 10g that had plenty of room for stocking but I only want like 1 of them. Any recommendations? It's a 10g with pH of 7.2, ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 2-5, and temp. is 77 F. Whisper 30 for filtration and loaded with hiding places and plants.

i have a banded loach and hes a snail munching machine but he might be too big for a 10g

I dont kno how big you snails are,but if they are pretty small I would get a yo-yo loach. I had a snail infestion a couple years back and I put in algae wafers at night and then I would net a bunch the next morning. It realy helped the yo-yo. Hope that helps

i would also say the yo-yo....thats what i got for my old 20g when i had a problem with snails.

I was reading about treating cyano with erythromycin (sp)
and got a nice little tidbit, it seems that the antibiotic killed all the Malaysian trumpet snails:19: , oh yeah, it also worked on the cyano

There little snails so I may go buy a yoyo. I do not want to use chemicals to take care of them.

I was reading up on the snail problem last night thinking salt might work and the article says it may get rid of a few but not all and they will just breed again. I pop them about 5 times a day at the waterline and they just keep on comin'.

The salt will do the plants no good either. Also read about the medications you can use but those are also harmful to plants, so this article says.

Looks like a yoyo will have to do.......or putting one of my clown loaches in the tank for a while. I don't want to stress one of them out moving him away from the others so will do the yoyo. Are they OK with corys?

get a clown loach but be sure to have a bigger tank as it grows

hobbs...i would say that they are ok with corys. I had one in with some corys and the yo yo just hid in his cave all day and while the corys were sleeping he would come out. o yeah...they like to hide during the day....

Thats what people try not to do- get a fish and get a bigger tank. You try to get a smaller fish for a smaller tank. Its a bad thing to have to get bigger tanks.

I agree on the snail problem. Fish remove stuff better than chems- its more relaxing too, I mean, who watches liquids in a tank? Why not watch a funny loach eat snails?

Good luck on the yo-yo Kuli. Try the pellet way in addition,it really helps

Well, off I trudged to town in 15 degree weather to get some yoo's. Of course they didn't have any.

Yoyos (pakistani) loaches will eat away your snail problems pretty quickly. I have a couple, and even drop in a few small snails from time to time, just so the yoyos can eat them.
