hi i have 4 guppies, 2 female ,and 2 males, and i also have 5 rasboras.
My prob is that i have just read that guppies need salt in the water is this true 8O

No. it isn't.
guppies can be kept in a slightly brackish water but does not need salt in the water.

It's up to you to decide. Overall it doesnt seem to hurt, but isn't a MUST have.

Thats an eniterly different debate allthough related. And I would like to add that there are quite a few fishes that take damage from salt in your tanks. Since some of these are common and salt isn't needed it is best to avoid it.
I repeat salt can hurt a numbre of common fish species. guppy is not one of them.
I will however refrain from saying more and start the debate all over again.

I've herd that all fish that give live birth enjoy salt over regular water. It can also help in breeding them.

Nah thats making it too easy. Some do other don't: black mollies are an example of live bearers for which i strongly recommend tthe use of salt.
