Shocking actually - have kept fish all my life and never had rainbows... anyways a shipment came in with just the cutest rainbows I have ever seen so very quickly a 20 gallon was set up with a jungle load of plants - a fast flow and lot's of Moss (hoping to breed them.. a habit of mine I always try and breed every fish LOL)

I have 10 Pseudomugil furcatus

and 10 Pseudomugil gertrudae
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

They are very impressive little fish in real life - my furcatus look more purple in the body with very bright yellow fins...

I'm excited can you tell?? LOL :19:

I have to get used to their busy swimming as in the past few years all my fish have been more 'relaxed'

And what's that supposed to mean Tolley?? Hahahahahaha xxxxx

Thanks ... they are really cute... they seemingly lay 5-10 eggs a day (the females) so I don't think breeding will be too hard once they have settled :1luvu:

Where did you get your blue eyes from? An online store or LFS there?

Fishalicious
12-30-2007, 11:45 PM
My own store... :19: I made a trip to the suppliers today and they had these in... my suppliers send out to the whole world though and also have offices in the US - Miami
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Any LFS should be able to order them in ...

If you like these you should also check out Iriatherina werneri - very small but stunning!!!!

Rainbows drive me nuts because I love them all! It's very difficult for me to pick one species but I would probably have to also go with the blue eyes due to tank size restrictions. One of my hangouts is the rainbow forum. Can't seem to read enough about them.

I never thought Rainbows would stir up such responses :hmm3grin2orange:

They need a tank that is at least 23-25 inches long to swim up & down & at least 15 Gallon water. So they are great for smaller tanks and for a wow factor with visitors :1luvu:

Having your own fish store is fantastic but the profit is not huge on fish alone... the profit is on all the accessories and tanks etc. I am lucky to live only 20 minutes from the suppliers so I can go and hand pick my own stock which cuts down on disease etc. Also the customers can order very specifically.

So i'm guessing you make enough to live well? My sister is wants to go into business management in college and wanted to own a pet shop.

Fishalicious

With a Pet Shop you will make a lot more as there are always people who will spoil their dogs/cats/birds with the 'cute' stuff that make a HUGE profit...

With fish it is the tanks & filters, food that make the most... the fish make a small profit of course but sometimes you have fish that die , fish that arrive with disease etc. which is no fault of the fish store - they very often arrive in that state from suppliers.

I also deal in real estate (have properties which I let - anyone fancy a holiday in Europe??? :18: ) so live off that and the profits I make from the store - I live comfortably. I love to help people with their fishkeeping hobby... customers can also make appointments to have a meeting and sit down with a cup of coffee and discuss what they are wanting & answer any fishkeeping questions they may have and help with their choices - for free as with good customer service your customers will always come back.

As Digital says - I am living the dream and doing what I love

Wow! very amazing fish!

In you store, do you only stock fish supplies or do you also stock other et supplies?

Fishalicious
01-01-2008, 04:56 PM
Just fish fish fish and more fish... and I keep to the Tropical side as I don't feel I have enough knowledge of saltwater to help my customers. Maybe one day I will start a salt tank and learn and read up on them and sell them in the future but at the mo I am happy :luxlove:

There is a salt tank in the shop but that is from a teenage saltwater freak who is not allowed a tank at home so he has one in the shop and does the upkeep and work on it

One of the 8 tank racks in the shop

I'm with you Ed. Jess, you're customers are VERY lucky. I wish I had that type of access to a store like yours and with a shop owner like yourself.

dude... thats like... the best fish store ever... i mean... i love my lfs and its great... but ive never seen an all planted fish store like that.

And i just had a thought, maybe you could hire that teenage saltwater freak and start selling saltwater fish, he could provide the knowledge for your costumers and teach you as well, or maybe he can help you set one up for yourself and so you can gain some expierence with them

Tolley

i cant find the words to explain how cool your fish store is. That saltwater freak is lucky as. Also im afraid I may go and live in your fish store, that ok?

The kid is my neighbour and I am all for encouraging the fish hobby, felt bad he couldn't have one at home ... once he has finished school he will be getting his own place and can have as many tanks as he wants LOL He helps me with the cleaning of the tanks in return etc. He is bummed though that I don't have saltwater stuff - he would be a lot happier if I did ...

It really is not that amazing hehehe it is just my cute little fish store - it is not huge.

These are my plant tanks - two run on CO2 for the CO2 tank people and the others without. (CO2 plants have a hard time going into a non CO2 all of a sudden so customers have a choice) The store is really made of needs and comments of customers to ensure they are happy...

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

The plants in the fish tanks I add for their comfort and I believe it shows them off alot better as they are a little happier - it is not always practicle though when catching fish for customers - luckily they are all patient

Tolley you are welcome to move in whenever you want ... maybe even give me a break on a Sunday from feeding the fish- a day off <bliss> xxx

Wow talk about going off topic LOL

Tolley
01-01-2008, 10:22 PM
:18: haha take a week off instead!!!

but yeah i think the smaller stores are always better and I only really like the stores with the fish selling tanks with decor in - much more attracting than a bare tank full of fish.

I cant imagine what your tanks at home are like!

Why do you have to make me so depressed? showing me these pics of this fantastic store i cant go to. lol

What type of FW fish do you stock?

shockshockshad
01-02-2008, 12:58 AM
Do you have a website where I can get fish from you? I know you have an informational website, but for buying fish? And maybe plants too? Wait, you are in Europe. Shipping to the US would cost a fortune.

Fishalicious
01-02-2008, 06:05 AM
I also prefer not to sell overseas unless it is to neighbouring countries - poor fishies.

Speciality is Dwarf Cichlids and people from all over the Netherlands and Germany & Belgium come for their Dwarfs - I am in contact with many dwarf breeders who also breed rarer types.

I sell every type of FW there is.. I also order in if I don't have a certain fish in stock for customers.

I have no problem sending plants over and I don't think the shipping is too bad from here overseas (ebay prices are inflated) so if there are any plants anyone is looking for they cannot find.
