or is my Mopani wood sprouting new growth?:hmm3grin2orange:JK
I'm pretty sure this is some kind of algae but I can't figure out what. I've scrubbed the wood off and when I put it back in the tank it just grows back. How do I get rid of it?

Looks more like a fungus to me, but either way, I would say to either boil the wood, or put it in the oven. 350 for 2 hours. Do Check it every so often make sure it isn't starting on fire. I don't want your next post to be, about how your house burned down.

yup i would boil it then add some anti fungal treatment like the meth. blue or somthing safe for fish and won't stain your nice piece of driftwood

Ok, I'll try baking it. That wood is so saturated though, I don't think I could ever catch it on fire! LOL! Its been soaking for over 6 months.

It is unlikely, just covering my butt. You can't say you weren't warned.

Don't worry about the wood, mom. Leave it where it is. The fungus is just breaking down the outer layer of the wood. When it runs out of food, the fungus will disappear. Just takes a little time.
By the way, taking it out and boiling or baking it kills the Nitrifying bacteria on and in the wood, which we all know is all important. Patience, grasshoppers, all will be well in time.

Oh, Ok! That's even easier and no chance of burning my house down. LOL!

I guess I just wanted to get rid of it bacause its a little unsightly but if it will go away on its own I'll quit trying to get rid of it. Thanks Dave!
