Sorry for opening up another thread but I will get myself lost if I don't.

For now I think I will not use the metal halide lamps. The fixtures I can get to use, and afford, just don't seem to do the job I would want them to. So for now I will go with power compacts? Like this one.

as I believe I need Actinic light? That would be the blue side?

I seem to be having a problem finding fixtures sized for my hex tank. I imagine I could use/modify fixtures from say Home Depot? Thanks for your patience folks!!

Jim,
That's a good bulb. You'll have to replace it every six or eight months as the phosphors wear and cause color shifts to the detriment of life. If you're electrically handy, you could make your own light setup using a waterproof caps, reflector and an electronic ballast. You can get the stuff at Champion Lighting and Supply: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
It's not at all difficult to make your own lighting unit, and with the shape of your tank, its almost impossible to find a commercial one for reefs that'd fit.

I was thinking of using a pair of them in a fixture. Awesome!!! Now I'll go eye ball some fixtures!!!

Of the topic here but do I need to leave the air injection (?) on on the power head?

I don't know about the air attachment for the power head but did want to say one thing.

Never, ever, ever apologize for posting a good question! thumbs2:

I actually found a cheaper supplier that has it in stock!! I also found the actual diminsions of the fixture and one has to be enough. lol 18 x 16 pretty much covers the top of the tank.

Coralife makes good fixtures, Jim. That's a good choice, and about 20 bucks under retail.
