I have been reading alot lately about different types of filters and wanted to ask what is the best kind to use in a 29 gallon tank? It came with the kind that hangs on the back. I have a UGF in my betta tank and wondered if I should get one for my bigger tank as well? Should you use both types of filters in a tank?

29 gallon with 2 dojo loaches, 6 guppies, 2 dwarf gouramis maybe a couple others that I haven't decided on yet. No real plants.

a hang-on will be just fine, aquaclear and emperior are the two brands i've used, the emperior has a bio-wheel which is an added benifit, if you want to be really cool i would check out the hydro-sponge, works amazing however its an intank filter and requires an airpump.

I have a tetra whisper 30 in my 29. It has worked fine, clear water and my Gouramis have been fine since I got it in May.

I also have a Pleco and he takes care of my algae, your loaches should do fine with that job though.
