over the past month there have been a few things growing in my tank that im a little concerned about. So before i get my fish i need to figure out if anything is harmful.

first up is this green stuff growing on the rocks, im assuming its algea but not sure
4275

and the other is this little thing that im just not sure of
4276 4277

pic 1 just looks like corraline algae to me, which is good.
pic 2 is aiptasia (spelling), which is bad. If that rock is very small, I would get rid of it. If not, you will need to use other means such as Joe's Juice to kill it. Aiptasia can spread in your tank, so you want to get rid of it fast.
pic 3, I can't tell from the pic

Just do some research on aiptasia, and you will see that a lot of people have trouble with it.

snipe that aiptasia, its a pest. the coraline algae (pic 1) is a sign of a healthy tank, and the feather duster in pic 3 is harmless

I agree with all of the above

Also, be wary of what fish you pick for that tank. Especially with the coral banded shrimp. When I had my 29g a long time ago, my one decided to eat a $114.50 gold stripe maroon clown.

ok thx guys, i'll get rid of the aiptasia, but can a little coral banded shrimp really kill a clown?

ooooooo yeah. They are extremely aggresive. Importers usually keep them only with big fish in holding tanks or on their own becuase they will eat or just kill anything small.

Like many things in the ocean, banded shrimps are opportunistic.

Why don't you trade him back to you LFS in exchange for a cleaner shrimp? They are much cooler IMO and are always out.

hmmm, well mine is still pretty small, im getting my clownfish tomorrow so i think im going to just see what develops between them, if theres any noticable aggression i'll trade him in and get a blood shrimp, there not aggressive too are they?

I am still waiting to see if anything else comes out of your rock! You should win an award for LROTM.

ok well i cant get a good pic right now because my room light sucks and i need sunlight in order to take a decent shot, but it doesnt look harmful. It's small and has green tips, it almost resembles a tiny lone zoa except it can retract the green tips into a little "stem" in an instant but doesnt go all the way into the rock

i actually remember going to the lfs and seeing a coral that hundreds of little green tip things bunched together, this looks almost exactly like that but all by itself
