When the blue gourami with dropsy died today. We took out the charcoal and began treating the aquarium yesterday for fungus and bacteria. Now I've lost my marigold swordtail whom I've had for about a year. I'm treating the aquarium...what more can I do?
Nothing. You're doing everything you're supposed to do.
Take your time and wait for the tank to clear up before you add anymore fish.
And you might want to seriously consider a quarantine tank. Doesn't have to be big...5 g is likely enough.

yep, rue hit this in the bud, a simple barebottom 10g with a heater, sponge filter, and cave makes a great quarantine tank. in between quarantine danios can keep the bacteria alive

Don't be discouraged. Fish loss is unfortunately part of the learning process and we've all gone through it. Just keep doing what you're doing and things will pick back up.
It's like I've said before, fishkeeping is like a roller coaster. Plenty of ups, but you have to deal with the downs as well. Good luck! thumbs2:

Fish and plants die sometimes, no matter how hard we try. Even in zoos and aquariums.

I have my old 20 gallon that I'm going to use as a quarantine tank. It has plastic plants and an undergravel filter. We were just talking about how many fish to keep in it
