I have been working with aquariums and fish for some time now, and have never had any breed before. I was hoping to pick up some feeder fish and try breeding them for a "first go."

Anyone have any suggestions on fish that are easy (or quick) to breed? I was hoping to start off with a species that is relatively easy - then move on to the more difficult ones.

What size tank and filtration will you be using? If you got a 20g long ora 25g tank I suggest Convicts and kribs. Both very nice and easy fish to breed. The convict are actually easier than the kribs. But if your looking for something super easy, id go with guppies. These fish have babies and dont eat them so theres no way you will lose your babies!

Truly easy fish to breed would be swordtails, mollies, platys, and/or fancy guppies to name a few. 3:1 female to male ratio. Add to tank. Wait. Enjoy fry.

You can't go wrong with convicts, only problem is getting rid of the many, many, many fry you WILL end up with:thumb:

Convicts a really easy just give them some bloodworms and a PVC pipe and off they go. just make sure it male and female. and just a warning once they start they won't stop!!!!!

Livebearers just do it all by themselves to super easy...

If catfish are your thing then Corydoras Paleatus are quite easy to breed ... if you lived nearby I could give you some as they won't stop here

Paired up Dwarf Cichlids or Rams or Kribs are quite easy to breed and take care of the babies all by themselves for you so no moving fry out of the tank etc...

Betta's aren't too hard to breed... but need a lot of housing for all the males as they grow up

Any of the above are nice to start with..

I agree with hat everyone else has said, just going to offer 1 minor correction.

Not all live bearers are easy to breed.

Fresh Water Stingray and Halfbeaks are both live bearers, yet very difficult to breed.

I would say kribs. I just spawned a pair for the first time. It was pretty easy, all I did was to get a male/female,put in a cave(clay flower pot), feed some live tubifex worms, and wait a little bit.

yeah but these two are more rare than all of the other livebearers. So most likley they wont have it. I have never seen one at my LFS or anywhere i go and look.

They have both at the little lfs by me,only reason I bring it up. I'd like to give the halfbeaks a shot, but they never get females..
