I have two african dwarf frogs. The one is in excellent shape, but the other one is struggling. I am feeding them bloodworms, emerald entree, and some frog pellets. Usually I feed them every other day. Is there anything I can do to help this guy gain some weight?? He looks really skinny which is really worrying me. Should I feed the one everyday? Several times a day? What else can I do? I really don't want to lose him. Thanks for the help

he's probably being outcompeted for food. What other fish are in the tank and how big is the tank?

They should be fed at least a couple times daily, but I don't think your skinny frogs's problem is lack of food. A fungus called Crytridiomycocsis (I hope I spelled it right) has been infecting dwarf frogs for at least the last eight months. If his skin looks flakey and he's not as active as usual, that's what he has. To my knowledge there's no hobby level medication for infected frogs, but if you google the fungus name, I'm fairly sure that there are high end medications for professional breeders out there. To my knowledge there is, but I don't know the names.

They should be normally fed several times a day???

I am quite sure it is not that disease. His/Her skin is not flaking. He/She looks bony. He is not being out competed either. I feed my frogs with a turkey baster to make sure they eat. I believe he has a lack of appetite. I tried feeding him earlier today and he didn't eat that much.

I've read from several sources that you should feed them every other day. So....I'm going to feed this guy everyday for awhile and see if he starts to look better. Thanks for the help though guys.

if it seems like his appetite is low I would try feeding him something else...mine always really enjoyed brine shrimp and chopped up earthworms. I have heard using a laser pointer to direct them to the food can help as well as the turkey baster.

Other symptoms of the aforementioned disease are hanging out excessively by the water's edge where they appear to be trying to escape, "ashy" skin (paler) and failure to thrive. Chytrid is frog specific so just keep a close eye on your adf's. I had some for several years, introduced a new frog, and within a month mine all had wasted away and died.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] has an article on the disease and some nutrition information.

I always fed mine once daily, every other day is usually sufficient. good luck and I hope your adf improves for you.

I'll try the earthworms. Thanks.
