the first ones to move in the 90g are the oscar and pacu. the mall is taking the pacu for their huge tank after he outgrows the 90g.

in the meantime, what other cichlid could go with them? can a red devil go with them?

No idea what they are but to Cocoa, a severum or a jack is possible, I also think a devil would be fine.

That looks like a malawi cichlids. Not reccomended to mix with oscars.

seriously? i never thought the severum could go with the oscar. the oscar and pacu are passive so im going to add my severum and a JD or RD and thats my final stock

cocoa_pleco

heres the tank. i never found a stand for it but i dont mind it being on the floor

tropfish
12-27-2007, 12:28 AM
big tank! are you planning on getting a stand?

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 12:32 AM
once i move out i will. i would have waited to set up the 90g until got a stand but i needed to put the 90g where the oscars old tank was for room

Looks good, BIG. Yea I have a severum, jack, and oscar in a tank and they do fine, the jack is the most aggressive thing in there by far followed by a tie of the oscar and severum.

so far im at 1 medium sized oscar, 1 medium sized pacu, one medium sized white convict, one medium sized green severum, and one baby common pleco. tomorrow im going to one of the petsmarts by me. I know theres one that always carries larger fish like oscars etc. i also need substrate, probably sand

You can keep a severum and oscar together, thats what i have and they dont fight at all. only at first my oscar chased him.

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 06:08 AM
so far noones fighting, so all is good.

hey you have a picture of your oscar? Just curious to see how big he is.

yep, ive got one. hes not too big, probably 6-7 inches, same as the pacu.

when i had to net them to move them to the 90g they put up a good fight, especially the pacu

That mystery blue cuchlid looks like a powder blue socolofi (a mbuna).

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 05:24 PM
lol, everyone in the 90g is doing the buddy system for some reason. the oscar and pacu swim together, and the convict and severum swim together, but the pleco is a loner. in a bit im going to petsmart for more fish and the sand.

Any specific fish you are looking for?

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 05:39 PM
not really, all of the cichlids are passive so i think its safe to add a smaller pleco and some other fish. i havent been to petsmart in forever and they have large so i'll see what they have

I have Jack Dempsey and Green Terrors and feather fin catfish in with mine. It's been about 5-6 months since I've had them all together. I like the Green Terrors, and so far everyone has been fairly peaceful. I may shrink the numbers when they get a little bit bigger. I may be in trouble because I'm 90% sure I have a male and female Terror. Could also be true with the Jacks, but only a guess. Don't think they'll co-exist when they become "active".

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 06:55 PM
dam, thats a good idea, green terrors are cool. it really depends on what the store has, if theres severums i should get mine a friend.

im going to overstock since i have major filtration, a 300g rated canister filter, 320g rated fluidized bed filter, and aquaclear 110 for 100g. the 90g is 48"x18"x24" so ive got the length of a 55g but much wider and taller, which is good for large fish

the petsmart sucks now. they did have some nicely sized oscars but they all caught ich and fin rot. i ended up spending only about $100. i got-

1 african knife fish- $15
1 baby green terror- $5
1 baby jack dempsey- $4
1 upside down catfish- $11
1 monster bag of tan gravel- $20
1 monster bag of gumball sized decor rocks- $25

EDIT- i'll throw pics in now

i havent got any specific pics of the new fish but heres the 90g now. I have some tan gravel with large stones in the middle, the pacu seems to like to toss them. my plants for the tank are more driftwood, fake plants in the back, and a 3-D background from aquagiant

looking good Cocoa. I love african knifes.

cocoa_pleco
12-27-2007, 11:39 PM
heres some pics. first is the african knife and the green terror, second is the pacu and oscar, third is the severum (pretty much all of the time his bars are dark black but hes stressed when i take pictures of him), and last is the upside down catfish. I also plan to add more fish still to the tank

EDIT- if youre wondering why my pics are blue its because i have 50/50 lights on the tank. i have 2 50w HO fixtures left from my old 20g reefs and the bulbs are $40 each and i dont feel like paying for 2 more daylight bulbs. i like the blue tinge and i have no live plants so its alright

im also lucky my canister will work on the tank. i couldnt find a 90g stand so my tanks on the floor, and of course you need the canister below the tank. luckily the tank is tall enough so the gravitation still works and as you can see i rigged the output to cling to the middle brace. works awesome. i love having a large tank

lol, i was going through my crap pile in the basement and found something cool, i remember in feb. i bought a 6" diameter round bubble disk and i never used it, and i just found it. I burried it under those big rocks in the 90g and the green terror and jack dempsey seem to like it

tropfish
12-28-2007, 01:44 AM
that's cool. i just bought two 4in bubble disks for the 55g. your Severum has good color, it looks different then mine, but that might just be the camera flash. If i use the flash he comes up tan and green, although in reality he's alot darker.

Looks good!! Not trying to pick on ya on anything but here are a few suggestions to help, more substrate for one, that barely covers the bottom but that may be look you are going for, I have done that before also. Another is a ghost tube or just a piece of PVC pipe for the knife, it NEEDS a place to hide.

tropfish
12-28-2007, 01:59 AM
BTW, how big does the african knife fish get? Some sites say 8n while others say 12in.

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 02:06 AM
the knife gets 12 inches, the 90g will last until i get the 150g.

yep, and im getting more substrate. i thought the single big bag would work but looks like i need more. it doesnt help that the convict is already arranging the gravel to his liking. lol

The knife has plenty of hiding spaces, i got more driftwood. A few years ago i raised a black ghost knife from 3" to over 15" and learnt the majority of my mistakes then. I had a hide-a-ghost tube for my old black knife and i think i know where it is still. even though he has hiding spaces the african knife seems content cruising with the severum

TowBoater
12-28-2007, 02:10 AM
Lol, yea. I thought they were the knifes that got like 30" or is that the clown knife?

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 02:13 AM
clown knifes and ghost knifes get about 36". i did have my severum 6 months ago in a 33g with a small clown knife but the severum freaked and killed him, i figured if anything the clown would kill the severum

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 05:09 PM
still no agression so im safe to add more fish. i have $150 monday to get a couple more fish and decor

tropfish
12-28-2007, 05:36 PM
what fish are you planning on getting? btw, the Green Terror is awesome. i really want one, especially the little 2in ones at the lfs, but i think they get too aggressive for my tank.

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 06:16 PM
im really going to overstock, all i really want now is a gold severum and another oscar, and more driftwood and plants

TowBoater
12-28-2007, 07:44 PM
Man get a ton of drift wood and make it look like tree roots!! That would be cool, if you are going to overstock then a pictus or featherfin would look cool in there.

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 07:57 PM
im definitely trying for a larger catfish than the upside down catfish

tropfish
12-28-2007, 08:27 PM
I agree with the tree root theme, that would be cool.

i'm getting a featherfin today, along with some other fish. Me with money is like a kid in a candy store, or cocoa in a lfs lol

lol, my face seeing the 90g for $90 was nuts, i ran to a worker and screamed that id take one and would need help taking it to the truck. lucky thing since they said that they had a flow of holds for them at that price.

Did your parents act suprised or where they like "eh, typical you" lol. My parents would've killed me.

cocoa_pleco
12-28-2007, 08:57 PM
lol, its typical. i remember when i bought my motorcycle 2 years ago i just plain had it in the garage and it took like a month for them to notice it. lol

cocoa_pleco

bored so i took some pics

EDIT- is my oscar a tiger oscar? or what kind is he?

TowBoater

The featherfin largely resembles the upside down and gets bigger.

i ended up needing a new filter today, when i got back into town my canister was grinding and no water was pumping. i reassembled it and still nothing so i went to aquagiant. i got a corner filter thats as tall as the tank, and i think i'll keep my busted canister to see if i can fix it. i also got a bunch of driftwood. tomorrow im getting some more fish
