Our local water district will begin adding fluoride into our tap water soon. Is there a test out there to see how much they are putting in? Since fluoride is a form of rat poison, I certainly don't need that in my aquarium too.
Great, great question. I am not aware of any test kit for it. I don't know if it is harmful to fish, but I would imagine not since many of our members live in areas where fluoridated water is the norm. I'll be interested to learn more about this from our members more experienced than I.

Um, guys (and girls) water companies have been putting floride in water supplies for a couple decades. Its why there are less cavities in the US population than in ages past. Just an FYI. Most of you have been drinking floridated water since you were children.

GM,
LaMotte makes reagents for testing all kinds of things, including Floride. Here you go: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
The reagents are designed to be used with a colometer, which is what I use to do reagent-based tests, but you could eye-ball the results with a chart.

Nice! Thanks as always for sharing. Great resource!
I really don't know what fluoride will do to fish but you just hit a nerve and I have to reply. I work for a drinking water plant in oregon and Oregon is one of the few states that does not mandate the poisoning of there population. I have done a lot of research and the findings are mind blowing. Fluoride not only makes a good rat poison but also a great pesticide, and is used in a lot of agriculture. because fluorine is such a small molecule (about the size of H2O) it absorbs into the plant or food it is sprayed on so fluoride is already in a lot of our food. Grapes can have a residue as high as 0.8 ppb the gov recommend .1ppb in drinking water and .2ppb as max av daily dose. as you can see with it in our food water virtually all beer wine and soda there is no way to control the dose people are getting. also fluoride works for teeth as a tropical there is no evidence that ingesting it does anything for your teeth. Sorry to vent but couldn't help myself

There should be no problem. Your fish's teeth wil be much healthier though.
