There are several species that are commonly called silver dollars. Most of these species grows to be 6-8 inches.

have you any idea how long it would take 1 inch long SD to get to about 4 - 5 inches?

I would think awhile. My two smaller SD's were 2in when i bought them and are now about 3in long. After 6 months... I would say about a year, little more maybe

I've only had my dollars 6 weeks and they have noticeably grown. One was rather a runt of the group and he's nearly caught up with the others. They are also getting their dots.

They love flakes and blood worms but don't eat that many greens yet.

My guys love their greens and have a blast with algea wafers as well. They eat almost anything that goes in their tank

How old were they before they started eating the greens? I've tried peas, green beans, romane lettuce and algae pellets but I don't see a strong desire for any of it. Some lettuce but not the others.

My guys favorites are spinach and green beans. They youngest two were about 3-4 inches, not too sure how old. Just a guess but maybe 4-5-6 months?

I'm getting worried now that they aren't getting the vegetation they need. It says if they have nice red anal fin coloring that they are healthy and mine are getting redder everyday but still......... I will try them on more stuff today. Thanks

I cooked up some french style green beans today but they are just laying in the tank, uneaten again. My SD are weird. There is no skittishness as claimed these fish are, no hiding in the plants, no fear of the light being turned on.......they are just there.......in the middle of the tank all day long hanging out with the tetra's.
I will try the spinach.

My SD are the same way. Very active, always speeding around. I never see them hide

I have cut a piece of foil and have it between the glass and the light to help subdue the light in the tanks for the SD. I liked the effect so well, did it on my other two tanks as well. If I was a fish, I doubt I'd like that bright light on me too long.
