On saturday we had christmas because my mom works the 25th. My girlfriend got me one of those hanging betta fish bowls.

What do you guys think of it? Is it big enough for a betta?

Thats wicked cool. Its enough for a betta. I had one in that amount of water for 3 years.

bettas need at least 1g so it will be fine. is there any way to heat it tho? do you know what would be cool in that? 2 ADF's or some ghost/RCS

heat was something i was a bit concerned with, my house stays at only 72 day and night. i'll probably just get a real small heater and put it in there, unless someone has a better suggestion?

Your pretty stuck, even if you cant heat it, and it was smaller, your girlfriend would be pissed if you didnt use it lol..

something like this would work well.

I used that heater in my 2.5 gal, it was perfect. Doesn't take up much room either.

I personally wouldn't use it at all, but that's just me.
As cocoa_pleco said, provided a water change is done every couple/few days, and it's heated, then OK.

Yeah I agree nick, I personally wouldn't use it either.

Not my thing either I'm afraid... they say 1G minimum for a Betta but when I see my Betta swimming around in 10 and really exploring the whole tank I always think bigger is better :11:

Plus not heating or filteration is asking for daily or every 2 days new water... can't imagine that being much fun...

Each to their own though ... that's what makes us different :thumb:

This is just me, but I wouldn't trust a hanging beta bowl. I would be afraid of someone bumbing into it or having it fall from it's hanging post while out of the house.

Its kinda cool looking but not really practical. You would have to change the water a lot and man if you miss the hook on the wall hanging that thing up you are gonna have a sad fish and a big mess to clean up. Doesn't seem like you could heat it without having a cord running up to it. I wonder if you could trade it for one of those 2.5 minibow kits. There only about $25. That's a good home for a betta. You think your girlfriend would understand if you traded it in?

It also promotes the following theories people have developed:
1. If a fish likes to be alone, it doesn't mind a small space.
2. Just because a fish can survive without filtration, means filtration is not required.
I kept my Beta in a plastic aquarium of about 2g and it lived a while. I do think I should have given him a bigger home. Too late now, he died of swim bladder disease several months ago.

As long as you kept up water changes, and found a way to heat the tank, I don't see a problem with it. There are bettas surviving well in even smaller abodes than the afformentioned, so this should do fine.

When you hang it, make sure you set the hook/nail into a stud into the wall, so it wont pull out of the Sheetrock and fall.

for a 1g, you should be aiming to change half the water every 2-3 days and 100% every week. If you can't have a heater then you sohuld really buy a better tank, unless the room its in stays warm, but it seems to much trouble to me.

After my last beta, I might give up on keeping a beta. Full aquariums bring more excitement.

I have bettas in a community tank (lots of plants)...

...and I have one betta in a 7g tank on my desk...I watch him whenever I'm on the computer...

wow i had no idea this thread came back lol, i didnt really want to use it either but like yaygoldfish said, if i dont brittany (my g/f) will be disappointed and i'd hate to see her upset. And thx for that link tropfish, i didnt see any small heaters at my lfs so im think i might order that and my water change schedule was gonna be about 35% change every wednesday and a 65% change every sunday so he should be fine in there

you know, instead of a betta you could keep some shrimp or african dwarf frogs. That would be cool. with a sand substrate and some java moss/ java fern
