what species of pleco are these???????????

ok so i saw one of these little plecos in the pet shop and i couldnt help my self, i bought it under the name of clown pleco. i thought it would be good to order it a friend in the hope of hearing the splishy splashy of little fins, thus the second larger pleco.
ive been doing some searching trying to find information on breeding them and im thinking that it looks closer to a leopard frog pleco and not a clown pleco at all. the stripes are larger and they are more black than brown.
im hoping someone here could help me identify what type they really are -if not a clown- and possibly give me any breeding information aswell?
thanx very much in advance, i want to do my best with them as they have cost me quite a bit of money in obtaining them and im really falling for them and dont want to loose them.

You may want to check through planetcatfish and see which one they match. They have them all listed by L number.

i was looking last night and im 99% sure they are leopard frog plecos. the number is L 134. thanx fish guy thumbs2:

I just picked up a Royal Pleco this past weekend, and yours look nothing like mine! I'm sure they aren't Royals

They are defo L134's ... I have a tank full of them at the moment...they are really lovely and don't get too big xxx

I was reading just last night that cichlids will sometimes grab of eyes out of pleco's. I had not heard that before.

What that has to be baloney!!!! I have never heard of that before. Why would they eat the eyes?

There is always the possibility that cichlids (and other fish) will cause certain problems. I would not consider it a trend or likely at all though.

thanx guys and gals. i got a good deal on them actually, in aus L134's are worth easy $250 per baby one and i got mine for $100 each. im glad the girl at the petshop stuffed up lol. so now fingers crossed out of the three i have i will get a pair and they will breed. i want to sell fish for $200 a piece :wink2:

its true. they go straight for the eyes. the first common pleco i had in my 90g was close to getting his eyes gouged out, he had some eye damage but healed. i bought a new 6" pleco a few days ago and so far hes being ignored

Those could possibly be L052 or L168 according to planet catfish. Very similiar looking.

I still say the prices are insane abroad... the L134 are only about $20 - $30 here... the more I hear about the prices the more I think I should move and start breeding and opening a shop over there LOL

It may be multiple L#s. The L#s are an identification given before the species is formally described and given a scientific name so that people still know they are talking about the same fish. There are a few L#s for gold nuggets, and many others.
