We bought out tank used and there appears to be a hard water stain on the inside wall of the tank. Our tank is fully set up with plants and fish. Is there any way to get rid of this water stain with the water and fish in the tank? If not, if I drain the water down some, what can I use to clean it so that if it drips it will not kill the fish. There is a picture of my aquarium in my introduction and in the photo gallery. The water stain is on the left

...hhm...I'd try a flat razor.blade..wrap tape or something safe on the one side, before you use it in the tank...

I have a cleaning tool from Marina/Hagen that came with two scrubby pads (one for flat surfaces and another for the corners) and a metal bladed. The heads are interchangable with the handle and works great to get the toughest algae and stains of the glass. Just make sure you use even and easy strokes not to scratch the glass, either wise you can get algae caught in the scratches and are nearly impossible to get out.
