FIRST it has to be said that these are NOT MY PICS!! They are from the Aquarium Fish International Magazine, February 2008 issue. The article is written by Petr Zelenka, article is on page 32.

I took these pics with my camera directly from the magazine and they actually came out pretty good!

those are...interesting???

IMO they are kind of ugly......i like the normal one better...i just don't find them really appealing. But they are different.

thanks for sharing 2manyfish

They are extremely rare...just now making a comeback in the hobby. Maybe someday they'll be as common as long finned zebra danios but for now, very rare.

How are they bred that way? Natural mutations, then selective breeding, and inbreeding to get the desired results.

hhmmm....that is really cool how they get them to look like that...

Thanks for sharing! I think I prefer the regular neons as well though . . . that's just a bit over the top for my tastes. Maybe if I were to see them in person, I might find them more favorable.

Sweet. Reminds me of an Arctic Grayling

Wow...I dunno about those. I like my neons, but I think I would have to see those in person to get a real feel for how they look. Often pictures aren't what they seem.

Good job.

Two days ago I popped into the LFS and they had about 20 in a tank. I had no idea how uncommon they are so I barely glanced at them. I was in there for dog food and just went through the tanks to see what was new. I only looked for a few seconds, didn't think the "swim" was all that appealing and went on down the row.
Pretty good pic of a pic though!

I think they look quite interesting. A bit more showy than normal neons, which could be a good thing, and could be a bad thing! :)

p.s. no worries about the suggestion, I'm just glad we've been able to see the pictures :)

Bet those would sell for a pretty penny.

i really like them. I big school of those or a couple added to an existing school or common neons would look pretty cool. If they school together. Little worried that the fins would get bit off quickly if you had a gourami or tiger barb in the same tank since the neons wouldn't fight back.

I'll never understand why the have to bring out veiltail or balloon versions of fish... especially veiltail fish that are nippy and squabble a lot - you just end up with really ugly raffled finned fish... and anyone who has neons know how they can squabble with each other all day

They look cool, and they would sell fast. However, I don't think a school of them would be interesting.

I was going to say the same thing. I think they'd be fun to have.
