View Full Version : Black w/ Red Bellied?

Not sure ... but thinking about getting a few RB's and a couple of Black P's (which don't seem to be black at all)... I have heard/read that Black P's are the most aggressive...will they eat up the RB's?

I know I'm asking for a personal judgement question... but which ones are better if I have to choose?

You need several hundred gallons for a school of them. If you just have like 2 then they would be fine in the 125g.

General rule is 20 gallons per piranha. You can NOT put the black piranha in with the red's it will kill all of them, and u can only keep a single black in one tank (unless u have a HUGE tank...like at least 1000gallons). And two red's is also not a good idea, they will constantly fight..u need 1, 3, or more...

this is a very big "no no" the blacks can not even be kept w/ other blacks. they will surely kill the redbellys and each other.

i personally favor the blacks. i have a 13" black that is awesome to watch. she can take down a 6" smelt in about 5-10 seconds.

also...the black piranha will not turn black until it nears adulthood. in their younger years they look similar to the redbellys. hope this helps a bit.
